The night was cold and dark. A slow and steady wind pushed absent mindedly against the straw and mud hovel where he stopped for a meal. His eyes were alert, but he met no man's gaze as he quietly slurped his rice broth. It was salty and hot and the steam warmed his reddened nose. He sat there quietly thinking about what he would do next.

The serving girl brought him a bowl of plain riceand several side dishes: squid, pickled roots, spiced pork, several soy bean pods, anchovies, andsesame spinach.

The man almost lost his cool demeanor as he started to nimbly pick up morsels and shove them into his mouth.

As soon as he noticed that he was drawing attention from the serving girl, he stopped, nodded, and continued eating (more slowly this time). Aslight smile broke his seriousness and he continuedeating and thinking, without looking up.

Suddenly a glint of light caught the corner of his eye. Instantly he sprang to his feet just as the servant girl fully revealed the razor sharp tanto she had unsuccessfuly tried to hide in her belt. In a flash, she sprang toward stealthy warrior as she thrusted and slashed the air just inches of his armored body. Just as soon as she knew that she was about to sink her steel blade into his flesh, she instantly found herself opening her eyes to look up at the warrior whom was now standing over her. She was flat on her back; her blade was forgotten.

She reached for a secondary throwing blade in her sleeve, but the warrior was prepared. He flicked a shuriken into her forearm and the girl winced in pain. Several curses issued out of her that surprised the experienced warrior. He smirked, then shook his head. Looking around the room he saw that he had the attention of everyone. He looked down at the girl again, kicking her blade out of reach. He opened a large pouch at his side and emptied the remainder of his meal into it. The soup he picked up and slurped down quickly.

He quickly and silently moved through the silent crowd and out the door into the cold windsweptnight. He shivered, another night out in the coldbecause his people tried to kill him, he was getting too used to this.Time to move on he decided as he settled his equipment over his shoulder and walked slowly down the street. Never looking back, but knowing just the same, of the many eyes boring into his back, none of them friendly. He sighed thinking of the welcoming when he first entered the town, the mayor making the effort to leave his bed, even the looks of envy and fear from the towns folk. Back then they begged him to come to their town, someone who wasn't afraid of Kang and his Goons, petty thugs no better than that servant girl, easy kill. He looked up, he had reached the town gates, looking back he thought they got what they wanted and then found that they didn't want it at all."Fools you will never be satisfied with what you have, others would kill for this town! But you all treat this gift as dirt, as if you somehow have the right to good land, and peaceful times."He spat into the dirt."To hell with all of them" he muttered. He who was once proudly called friend to the emperor reduced to this, for one indescretion! He strode of into the night.

Soon he found an area to make a camp for the night. There was a clear running brook that wound it's way through a large thicket of woods. This offered some concealment should anyone by wandering by or hunting him. He made a small fire in a low lying area, next to the brook. This helped conceal the light from the fire. He made a fake palet close to the fire with a few blankets and some piled up leaves he gathered from the forest floor. Further away in an a brushy area is where he made his actual sleeping palet. He laid his katana next to his body along with the rest of his weapons and shut his eyes, but not his ears.

The sun began to break, but just as it did, blackened.Everyone, including ninja, looked up to see a ninjain a black robe, riding a black dragon. He boomed "I have been sent to finish you.". Just as soon as he said it, a 2 foot long 3-point shuriken flew out of nowhere and nicked the black ninja in the arm, beginning the flow of the ly viper venom. The black ninja yelled in pain. A young man dressed in suprisingly casual clothes, a pair of baggy jeans and a long-sleeved navy blue T-shirt with an orange chinese dragon on the front came out of nowhere and caught the shuriken as it amazingly curved right back at him. the man and Attori looked in amazement to realize the one who unleashed the ly poisonus strike was only about thirteen or fourteen."Are you gonna stand there or help me fight this dude!?" the boy yelled."Oh, sorry." said Attori. The black ninja and his dragon suddenly attacked. A ferocious battle raged through the darkened day, and by the time the enemy was vanquished and the sunrestored to its original brightness, it was setting. The boy introduced himself. "I'm Tri. Nice to see you weren't killed."

Nights later, as the warrior was strolling through the boonies of late Yomchi, he came upon something quite interesting. To his sheer terror, a man was laying, thrashed by some sort of "evil". He had once heard of this thrashing in local folklore and decided that maybe it could be attributed to the the ancient Okinawan demon, Akuma. He left the body- not knowing whether he should flee the boonies or continue on to his destination of the land of Kawakami.

The ninja replied by asking the peasant for safe shelter for the night. So he took the ninja to his house and gave him a place to stay. While they were sleeping, two more ninjas emerged from the darkness. These ninja were from the same clan as the black ninja, but they were dressedgrey Gi's. They appeared invisible in the night. They slowly crept up to the house where the black ninja was staying. When they reached the house, they both pulled a pouch from their belts. The pouches were filled with gunpowder. Being that the house was constructed of wood asdstraw, the grey ninjas sprinkled the gunpowder all over the base of the house. The black ninjawas awakened when he heard the sound of a smokeball shatter emiting a cloud of smoke. He jumpup and silently looked out the crack between twowooden beams of the wall. He noticed the flashof light in the darkness. All of a sudden the fire blazed up like wild fire. The black ninjarealized that he was not the only one in the house. He rushed in the room where the boy was sleeping not knowing that the house was on fire.He quickly grabbed the boy up and headed for the front door. When he got to the door,he tried to open it but was unable to do so. The grey ninjahad jammed the door shut with a sword. The black ninja sprinted to the back of the housewhere he found a window. Tucking the boy the boy tightly he smashed through the window without cutting either of them. The boy asked the ninja what was going on. The ninja tolded him only to stay out of sight and that he wouldbe back soon. Not wanting to involve the boy inhis problem, he disappeared in the night in search for the two ninjas that tried to burn himalive. Following a path through the thicket, he listened intensely to the sounds surrounding him. All at once he heard the sound of a katanabeing unshethed. He knew to other ninjas were watching him, but from where. Insticts told himlook in the trees that lined the thicket. In complete silence, one of the grey ninjas slippedout from behind one of the trees shooting a tranqulizer dart in the black ninjas neck causing him to fall to his knees. The other onewhich was hiding in the tree tops leaps to the ground next to the black ninja. He raises hiskatana to slice off the head of his victim. Butthen in a flash of fire and smoke, the ninja master and leader of the Kwan Chi Clan told himto sheth his sword. The grey ninja shethed hisweapon and quietly whispered "But Master Hiro, Ithought you wanted him dead?" The master informed the two that he would be more usefulalive than dead. Master Hiro instructed the apprentices to carry the Black ninja back to Hanoi where he would be questioned about the death of Master Hiro's son. In the black ninjaslast glance, he saw the two grey ninja's pick him up for the short trip to Hanoi. He then fell into a deep sleep......

Thursday, March 22, 2001 at 23:06:44

In the faint shadows of the chilled early morning, a mere oultline of a man slips into the sleeping town, observing all the lazy townsfolk fat with their sluggardness. His mind was still saddened by the deaths of two ninja apprentices. He knew that the Euoropeans would come, bringing their cowardly weapons, but he never would have guessed they would come this soon. From his lofty perch on the church belltower, he heard the distant rumbling of the Samurai and their battle hardened war horses. He quickly lept down down from the tower, silently landing on a low nearby roof. With a well executed jump, he landed on the hard dirt road without making a sound. "I must track the Samurai and find what their intentions are."

As the sounds of the rustling camp grew nearer, Raijen(Rah-gen) slowed his pace to the beat of the crackling oak logs in the Samurai’s bonfire. He smirked, another sign of the Samurai was their pride. The Samurai didn’t care if the whole countryside knew exactly where they were. They were drinking heavily and talking of their victorous battles. Some mentioned stories of youth and their wives, while others where homesick. Raijen did not worry about any of the stories and wild tales. He focused was on the huge tent in the middle of the oversized camp. He knew his target would be inside the roughly sown, green canvas structure. His always covered in a huge tent. Around this tent-palace loomed ten heavily armed Samurai. They would find out about their leaders death too late. One thing puzzled Raijen, the Smaller tent twenty five feet from the large one. Sometimes it housed the leader’s wife or children. A smile grew under Raijen’s mask. He thought, “At least this leader will have someone to lead the army after he dies.” Raijen desided to climb a nearby tree and wait for night to fall. As night fell, a guard emerged from the tent. “General Zen doesn’t want to be disturbed by anything tonight.” The group of Samurai slightly bowed, and the guard went to the other tent. Another smile spread across Raijen’s face, “Not only is he a general, he is Zen, the Emperor’s head general. I will make certain this general dies for the pain they have caused to the poor and helpless.” As Raijen climbed a huge tree suprisingly close to the tent, he made no unnatural sounds. The only people that were awake now were the guards around Zen’s tent. Soon, he was dangling upside-down from a grappling hook a few feet from the top of the tent. Raijen removed his battle worn tanto from his belt. He began to use the razor sharp blade to cut the stitches holding the tent fabric together. When the hole was big enough, he peeked in. Finding only a nice cot and General Zen sleeping soundly, he lowered his lean muscular body to the floor of the tent. The inside of the tent was huge, stretching almost twenty feet across. Undestanding the need of utmost quiet, Raijen crept to the bedside. Zen’s face revealed as much ruthlessness as his reputation. Scars cut from above his left eye to his strong jawbone. His nose bad been broken several times by the severe way it twisted like a gnarled root of an ancient tree. His eyes, although closed looked evil and cunning. He was truly a warrior. As Raijen readied his blade for the death blow, Zen burst out of bed swinging his three foot long sword at Raijen’s head. Artfully, Raijen’s reflexes twisted his body away from the weapon, only to find that in mid-stroke it changed direction and sent Raijen’s tanto blade five feet across the room. The guards and the inhabitants of the other tent had been aroused by the commotion and burst into the tent only to find their General and a man in black deep in battle. They knew the rules, they had seen this happen before. Some reckless ninja tries to assassinate their general only to end up dead. The general only required that they only prevent the ninja’s escape. Zen swung his blade at Raijen’s mid-section as Raijen responded with a well executed side kick. Raijen dodged Zen’s nextt swing at the last possible second. Again Zen swung and Raijen dodged, Raijen soon found himself backed against the circle of cheering men. The fighting stopped. Zen demanded, “Tell me your name before you die, worthy ninja.” Raijen answered, “My name is Grand Master Raijen, and I won’t die so easily!” Infuriated by the sureness of the defeated ninja, Zen swung his blade straight down for Raijen’s head. At this time Zen’s only son, Tushiru(Two-sheer-rue) walked in. Raijen knew Zen’s only son would provide him an escape.Raijen clapped his hands together over the desending blade, catching it between his palms only inches from his head. In the same motion, Raijen jerked the blade from Zen’s unsuspecting grasp and dove for his tanto. As soon as Raijen landed, he had picked up the tanto and thrown it at Tushiru, striking him in the heart. As Zen and the mob panicked, Raijen quickly jumped for his rope while dropping Zen’s sword. Raijen reached the tree limb with blinding speed. Zen yelled to the crowd to fan out and kill Raijen, the Grand Master ninja that killed his only boy. With a swift jump, Raijen landed and began running deep into the woods, far from the angry camp. As Raijen dozed off he could only think about two things…his tanto… and Zen…

Raijin ran swiftly through the the forest tryingto lose his pursuers. At a glance, he saw a mirage of his former master and teacher Master Hiro. Raijin turned to look ahead when in a flash of fire and smoke his master emergefrom behind the tree in front of him. The master knocked him to the ground with a simplegrab technique. Raijin looked up at his former master with a glance of surprise. The fall had knocked the wind out of Raijin. In the distancethe sound of the samuri could be heard yelling to each other in search of the ninja. MasterHiro said to Raijin," I said I would cross pathswith you again. It sounds like you brought muchtrouble on to yourself. I should allow the samuri to find you, but that would not be honorable to a ninja." In that instant, Master Hiro picked Raijin from the moss covered forestfloor. They both wisked away among the trees leaving the samuri far behind them. They came to a clearing in the outer perimeter of the forestRaijin asked Master Hiro in very low tones" Whyhas my own clan turned against me. What have I done to bring such dishonor?" Master Hiro answered " The death of my son Rikimaru. You murdered my only son. For this I shall have my honor avenged." Raijin replied with sheer surprise" I was not the one who murdered Rikimaru. Hewas my brother in the clan. This is why I was in search of General Zen. He is the one who ordered your sons death." Master Hiro starred athis apprentice under him. He could not believethe words that came from Raijin's mouth. Justthen they heard a rustling in some nearby bushes. It was a mercanary ronin, searching for thelost dragon crest. Rikimaru had possession of it when he was murdered. Raijin had taken it from himwhen he found him lieing in a puddle of his own blood. The crest had a number of mysterious andrare jewels incrested in it. It was worth alotto merchant dealers. Raijin and Master Hiro bothturned to face the ronin when four more silentlymoved in from behind. The odds were against the two ninja masters, but they had been in thesekind of situations before. But they were against experienced ronin this time. Raijin unshethed his katana and three four point shurikens from hispouch. Master Hiro pulled a tanto from his sideand stood in a defensesive fighting stance. Two of the ronin ran toward Raijin slashing at his chestcatching nothing but the black cloak he was wearing. One charged at Master Hiro blade firsthitting nothing but the ground as the master sidestepped and axe kicked him in the back of the neck.He then lifted him from the ground piecing him in the chest with his razor sharp tanto. One roninpicked up some dirt and sand and tossed it in the eyes of Raijin momentarily rendering him blindof all oncoming attacks. The ronin jumped intothe air with intent to stab his sword in the ninjas back when all at once............

Raijen awoke in a cold sweat. These nightmares had plagued him since he was a child. Raijen thought, "Who is Master Hiro? Why does that name seem familiar?" Master Raijen prayed the dreams would one day make sense. His thoughts were broken by the swift approach of a man clad in black. His movement exceeded that of normal men. As the man easily averted trees at this blinding speed, Raijen knew it to be the movements of a master ninja. Raijen was not looking forward to another battle this early in the morning, but he breathed deeply as he got into a defensive stance. The ninja abruptly stopped ten feet of Raijen. There seemed to be something oddly familiar about this ninja. Raijen fumbled his words, "Are you Master Hiro?" In a powerful voice the ninja said, "I dont care who told you my name, but you wont live long enough for me to worry with it." Master Hiro drew a tanto from it's secret pouch and slowly eased into a ready position. Raijen spoke, "My battle is not with you." With blinding speed Hiro charged at Raijen's chest. Raijen twisted his body sideways while grabbing the wrists of his attacker. Raijen wrenched the blade from Hiro, tossing it to the mossy floor. Master Hiro laughed, "Foolish boy."Hiro quickly executed a difficult spinning kick that sent Raijen's back into a nearby Oak tree. In a flash of fury Raijen was on his feet. Shifting his weight, Raijen faked a side kick. Master Hiro thrust his hand out to block the kick only to feel his head jolt from the impact of a backhand. The pain stirred up Master Hiro. He went into a series of hand attacks. Raijen found himself blocking countless strikes, many of them death blows. Their fighting was interrupted by the sound of heavy footsteps.Ten heavily armed samurai stepped into the clearing. The head samurai grinned, "Master Zen will be very pleased. We will kill both of his enemies at once." He yelled, "Kill them!"Two nearby samurai charged at Hiro. Master Hiro jumped clear of the attack. As he landed behind the first samurai, Hiro thrust his fingers into the samurai's neck causing instant death. Using the speed of his desent, Master Hiro sweeped the feet out from under the other one sending the samurai clanging to the ground. A samurai jumped for Raijen. Master Raijen twisted his body clear of the attack, slamming the palm of his right hand into the back of the samurai. The samurai slumped as his breathing stopped. Raijen glanced up finding a sword beginning its desent towards his back. Raijen dove forward, taking the legs out from under the samurai and knocking the wind out of him. Master Raijen snatched the sword from the samurai thrusting it into his stomach. Raijen turned to see Hiro finishing off the foot swept samurai with a crushing kick to the head. The remainder of the samurai charged at the ninja's. Master Hiro ducked an oncoming slash bringing his palm into the chin of the samurai, instantly snapping his neck. As the samurai ran at Raijen, he drew back and slammed his palms into a nearby samurai's chest causing massive heart failure and a violent seizure. One samurai and the head samurai locked up with Master Hiro in battle. These samurai where much better trained than the others. The head samurai faked a thrust and front kicked Hiro in the ribs sending him to the ground. The head samurai raised his sword for the death blow. Master Hiro focused his energy into his right hand. As the sword swung down Hiro struck the side of the blade with the bridge of his right hand. The blade snapped sending the front portion into the chest of the second samurai. In a wave of panic the head samurai began to run. Hiro's suriken struck him the back of the head.Once the last two samurai noticed their leaders demise they began to flee. Raijen jumped kicked one in the neck, breaking it. Mater Raijen's fire bomb exploded on the back of the last samurai showering him in flames.Out of breath, Master Hiro said, "Thanks for the help, your not so bad after all."Breathing heavily, Raijen bowed, "I apreciate your gratitution. I could not have done it without you."Master Hiro shook his head, "There is only one thing bothering me. How did you know my name?"

Raijen replied in a breathless voice" For yearsI've had these dreams that have been haunting me.In each one you were always involved some how. The last one i had, you save me from being foundby the samuri, and fought with me when we got smbushed by ronin." Master Hiro starred at Raijen intensely, but could think of mo reasonwhy this ninja had been having these dreams.Master Hiro then pulled a scroll from his belt.As he unrolled the scroll on a fallen tree thatwas nearby, an arrow from a cross-bow came flyingfrom darkness. Hiro quickly spun around and in an instant grabbed the arrow and threw it in the direction that it had emerged from. In the distance, the attempted assasin groined as the arrowpieced his chest killing him slowly and painfully. The two master ninjas searched for the sound of the dieing man. They found him about 30 pacesfrom where the crossbow was lieing, but the manhad poisoned himself before being found for fearor being questioned or tortured. Master Hiroraised the sleeve of the dead mans arm reveilinga dragon and tiger. Master Hiro knew the markingsas shoalin. This puzzled him though. Why woulda shoalin priest be trying to kill them? Theywere always thought to be pure in body and spirit.Even the thought of fighting was wrong, it was for defense only. If they could avoid a confrontation, then they would. Hiro looked up at Raijen witha distrout look. As they walked back to where the fallen tree was, Master Hiro told Raijen thatthe marks on his arm were from a monestarry nearby.Raijen was unfamiliar with the shoalin marks. After all he was not from this area. Dropping to one knee, he began unveiling what the meaningof the scroll was...........

Meanwhile...The small boy still waited for the kind ninja's return. Hiro had told him to hide and he did just that. As the hours past, fear began to grip this young one. It became so instense he could swear he heard the sounds of silent footsteps behind him. As the young boy's fear finally got the best of him he began to run, not knowing his way. The child was quickly lost. He thought, "I must be hearing things it. Those footsteps are still behind me." The boy grabbed on to a nearby tree, panting, out of breath. Suddenly, a firm hand clasp over his mouth! A deep voice whispered, "Come along quietly and you wont be harmed...much." Willingly the young boy followed the man until he passed out from exaustion. His eyes opened to see an extremely solid, huge samurai sitting in from of him."Good morning little one. Did you sleep well?", said the huge samurai warrior. "Where am I?", said the confused boy. The huge samurai laughed, "You are in my tent. I am Sosiembei, the leader of The Night Hawks.

The little boy, dazed and confused, could not figure out what to think about the events occuringaround him. First; his life is saved by a ninja, then two ninja's tryed to kill both of them, and now he was sitting in a tent with the leader ofthe Night Hawks. He had nothing to do with anyof it. All he knew is that he was walking backhome with some fire wood and he was bit by a snake. The leader spoke to the boy in a thunderousvoice "What is your name boy?" The boy whispered "My name is Ryo Sun Ming." The samuri asked theboy, who was now shivering with fear "Why are you whispering? No one is going to hurt you. You are in the safest place you can be. So you say your name is Ryo?" The boy spoke with a stutter"Yeeee yeessss sirr" Then at once there was aloud pinging sound from a gaurds warning bell. The general's right hand man rushed into the tent. His armor sounded like swords clashing as he ran in alerting the general of an attack at the westwall. The general stood up slowly as he told theboy to stay in the tent. He told the boy withsuch confidence " This will be over quickly."Standing near an open field, the sounds of warcould be heard very well by the ninja's. Master Hiroand Raijen were going to warn the Night Hawks of General Zen's plan of attack. But they were toolate, Zen attacked the Night Hawks two days early. The ninja's used their swift speed and ran quickly and silently toward the sounds of the battle. As they approched the east wall, they saw the samuri engaged in full combat. Already, there was bodies of dead or dismembered soldiers lyingeverywhere. Raijen saw a silouette in a huge tent by a blistering bonfire. It looked like smallchild. Raijen told Hiro what he saw as Hiro studied the samuri with an eagle eye. They ran to the tent using it for cover. AMBUSH!!!! one samuri sounded as another group of Zen's men camethrough the the north wall. GeneralZen laughed, "i have seen your downfall." SesScreamed with anger, "I shall tear your weak bodypiece from piece and distribute it across mykingdom!" In a fit of fury General Sesiebeiwent into a stream of frontal sword attacks. Zeneasily blocked these attacks. As raijen and Hiro watched this fight they focused solely onZen's eyes. As Zen continued to block Sesiebei'sattacks, he saw his chance and took it. As Sesiebei swungleft, Zen dodged right and kicked Ses's sword hand, making him do a half turn. While Sesiebei'sback was turned to Zen, Zen thrust his sword straighttrough the center os Ses's back. Raijen, Hiro, and Ryo screamed, "NOOOOO!" As Zen removed hissword from Sesiebei's back he laughed, "Foolishboy, never turn your back toward your enemy!"Seeing the death of their leader, Sesiebei's men scattered. General Zen yelled to his men, "Kill them quickly! After them! I'll get the boy!" Hiro grabbed the boy, "Hold on tight, we are leaving!"

Quickly and swiftly, the ninja's retreated throughthe forest jumping fallen trees and rocks that layered its floor. The sounds clanging armor couldbe heard all across the valley as the samuri chasedone another in a furious fight to the death. Inthe distance Raijen spotted what looked to be a cave. He quickly alerted Hiro as he ran toward the cave. In the vast darkness of the cave, they waitedto see if they had been seen or even worst followed. They listened to the sound of the dieing samurai in the distance. Hiro; in the corner of his eye, saw a daggar flying at the boy. He quickly picked the daggar from the air throwing it to the ground. Raijen sprinted from the cave in a flash jumping ina nearby tree. Hiro smashed a smoke sreen and disappeared from the cave. Raijen perched high in the tree tops saw the glistning armor of general Zen in the moon light. He jumped from treetop to tree top til he was in the tree where Zen was walking by. General Zen slowly backed away from the two ninjas. Hiro exclaimed, "Raijen, he's mine he ordered the death of my son. I will have my revenge!" Raijen polietly answered, "I wont kill him then, but I will punish him for all he has done to inncent people." Hiro started in on Zen with a fury of kicks, ranging high to low. Zen blocked most of them but the odds were against him. He thought, "Why hadnt I heard the ninja Raijen coming? It was like there was a powerful disturbance hindering my hearing. Could it be...no way he's dead I saw him die." While Zen was blocking Raijen kicked him hard in the back of the kneecap sending Zen to the ground. Hiro kicked Zen in the nose so hard they both heard the cartilage break. Zen lay writhing on the groung holding his bleeding nose. Hiro sneered, "This is it Zen. It is time for your death." Hiro paitently pulled his leg up into the ready position. Then they heard it. A dreadful voice broke forcefully into their minds, "I am Himata(He-ma-ta), your demise." With a blinding flash the two ninja awoke to the sounds of laughter. A very beaten Master Hiro and Master Raijen struggled painfully to move, only to find they were tied securely to two large trees, ten feet apart. When things seemed their worst, Master Zen and Himata steeped out of a large nearby tent. Zen laughed loudly, "Weclome back to my humble camp. Did you sleep well?"

Zen walked up to the two restrained ninja's kickingHiro in the lower abdomen causing internal bleeding.Raijen starred at Zen with rage fury in his eye.As Zen stepped in front of Raijen to deliver the same punishment, Raijen freed his legs grabbing Zen's sword in the process. With precise accuracy,he threw the sword toward his shoulder cutting theropes that held him. He quickly dropped footsweeping Zen. He snatched the sword from the tree and leaped at Hiro slicing the ropes with ease.In a flash he threw the sword toward Himato causing him to evade the blade. With the distraction, they disappeared in a cloud of smoke.Later that night, they found shelter in anothercave and had sucessfully evaded the super shinobi.Hiro, who was bleeding from the corner of his mouth, spoke with a whisper,"My apprentice, you'vegrown so fast in the way of the ninja. I feel Ihave no more to teach my best student except to tell you to let your skills guide you." Raijenreplied in surprise," But we just met, I don't reallyknow you. So why do you call me your apprentice."Hiro spoke with a slight gorgul in his throat," I took you in when you were just a boy age of 10.I found you near our clan camp dehydrated andunder nurished. There, I taught you the way of the ninja as my apprentice, my replacement."Raijen asked with a confused look in his eye," How is it that I don't remember any of this?"Hiro, whos voice was fading slightly lower in tome, said," During an attack, we got seperated. You were taken from the clan by the attackers when you were 17, and beaten. After you escaped from them, you had no memory of your past so you become a rogue ninja just wondering around searching for your meaningin life." Raijen spoke with a slight stutter," But, but why all the dreams?" " That was my wayof keeping in contact with you. Seeing what you saw, knowing where you were at all times. The reason i didn't come for you before now is becausi needed you to find your inner self." Hiro said, breathing very heavily now. Raijen replied faintly," That has been 5 years ago, but i remembernow. I know who I am!" With a slight smile, Hiro said in a low whisper," Then with my last words Isay to you, LEAD WELL MY SON." Zen laughed, "Good, Raijen has come to us. This will be fun." As Raijen neared the camp all the loud noises of the thick jungle grew silent. A face of terror swept over Zen. Zen barked out orders, "Men guard the perimeter! Dont let anything through!" As the men rushed for the edge of the camp Zen began to feel all alone. A cold wave of terror made shills run up his armoured back. The shouts of his men were soon far off, even Himata had vanished from sight. A tap on Zen's shoulder made him swing around, drawing his sword. He saw nothing. Zen stammered, "I know your here..show yourself!" Raijen spoke directly to Zen's mind, "I charge you for the death of Hiro and the death of many innocent people. Your time has come." A strong kick in the middle of Zen's back sent him rolling to the ground. Zen's eyes met Raijen's. Something had changed. This boy's eyes now had determination and purpose. They no longer looked wandering and void. Zen swung his sword at Raijen. Raijen caught Zen's right arm and broke his elbow sending Zen's sword clanging to the ground. Raijen then spun around, grabbing Zen's left hand from behind. Zen felt the sharp pain as Raijen broke his left shoulder. Zen went for a side kick to Raijen's ribs. Raijen blocked the kick and kicked Zen's other leg in the kneecap. Zen screamed as his knee broke, making his leg bend the srong way. Raijen ripped off Zen's armour, " where is my tanto!?" Zen winced, "I gave it to Himata, youll never get it back!" In a rage of fury Raijen knee'd Zen's in the ribs, shattering them. Zen fell to the ground, his screaming uncontrollable. Raijen then slammed his foot in Zen's lower back causing paralysis. Zen began to cry, "Kill me...Kill me please." Raijen turned his back and faded...into thin air.

He then reappeared behind General Zen. He grabbed Zen's long pony tail slicing it with Zen's own sword. Raijen spoke with intent as he dropped the hair to the ground along with the sword," NO,your punishment will be your honor. You will not be able to show your face to your own army. This will be your judgement because death is to easy."Just that instant, he since that something was different. Himato, perched high in a nearby tree, looked onas Raijen spoke to Zen. He then leaped from the tree landing only feet from Raijen. He drew hiskatana from his back just to have it kick out of his hand. As Zen crawled towards a tree, the katana wizzed by piecing the tree six inches. Raijen informed them both that their time had not yet come. There would be another day for their demise. Himato, standing completly stunned by whatjust happened, starred at Raijen waiting for the right time for attack. When Raijen turned to speak to Zen, Himato quickly threw three shurikens.Raijen spun around catching one of the three starsand threw it back at Himato. The shuriken slicedthrough Himato's garments near his heart and then it disappeared in the darkness. Himato made a quick retreatsince he just faced his worst defeat. Never hadhe failed twice at hitting his target. With the shinobi gone, he turned to face Zen. Raijen'svoice sounded like he had became a thousand yearswiser as he uttered the words," Until our nextgreat battle, your punishment is your loss of honor. The next time we face off, you won't be as luckyto recieve the same judgement. Your loss will beyour life." And with that said, he pulled Himato's katana from the tree with ease and walked away in to the night. In the early hours of the morning, Raijen crept back to the cave where he had left the boy. As he stood near the entrance of the cave, he heard laughing and talking. Raijen thought, “Who is Ryo talking to?”. Raijen peeked his head around the corner of the cave. In the faint light he saw Ryo and…Himata. Himata said, “Ryo, I am soo glad I have finally found you. I have missed my only son for a long time.” Ryo looked up with joy, “I am…your son?”. Himata smiled, “Yes my son. After the evil Raijen killed your mother, he seperated us. I have spent my entire life looking for you. I love you so much, I’ll never let us be seperated again.”. Ryo hugged Himata, “I love you too,…dad.”. Raijen burst into the dark cave, “Ryo, your not his boy, don’t listen to his lies!”. Ryo spoke, “I love my daddy. You will never separate us again!” Himata smiled, “Yes Raijen you will never separate me from me boy again. Ryo, daddy is gonna kill this mean man now. He will never hurt you again. Son, will you give the order?” Ryo said gleefully, “Sure I will give the order. Men kill the evil Raijen!” Raijen looked up in awe as a circle of twenty well trained ninja formed around him…

Raijen stood still and waited for them to attackfirst. Two ninjas charged from Raijens left. Raijen unshethed the katana that used to belongto Himato, and started blocking the attacks. Another ninja ran at him from behind. Raijen turned around slashing the ninja in the chest andthen he dismembered his head. At that instant, the rest of the ninja charged in to attack. Raijenknew that if he wanted to get out of this alive, he would need more room for the battle. He rushedtoward the cave entrance, but it was guarded by two ninja. Raijen stopped to pull a dagar out. He continued running at them as they unshethed their tantos for attack. Just then, one ninja fell to the ground and then the other as a silouette ran by the cave.Raijen, somewhat surprised by what he just saw, ranout of the cave and into a clearing. He waited for the other ninjas to come out of the cave in pursuit. When the remaining ninjas emerged from the cave, Raijen took a step back getting into fighting position.Raijen then heard the presence of someone else.Raijen looked behind him quickly to see if it was an ambush. The other ninja said to Raijen withslightly higher pitched voice," DUCK NOW!" Withthat said, Raijen dropped to the ground as the other ninja threw a hand full of shurikens. The charging ninja started falling to the ground as the stars hit them in vital areas of the body. This mysterious ninja had just defeated all of the others with the skill of his eye and the strength of the shuriken. Himato exited the cavelooking at the fallen ninja all around him. He quickly ran back in the cave and grabbed Ryo. In a flash, Himato and Ryo sprinted from the cave and out of sight. Raijen, stunned by all of this irony, looked toward the mysterious ninja in red, and spokewith a shaken tone," Who are you and why did u helpme?" The red ninja replied," My name is Naoshi Kobayashi and i was sent by the Quan Chi to look after you. I've been watching you for days." This mysterious ninja removed the hood to show his identity. Indeed it had been a long night for Raijen. As Naoshi and him, made there way back to one of the secrete hideouts of the Quan Chi clan, Raijen reflected on what had happened this night, and the previous nights, which had changed his life in more ways than one. Also as he reflected on the death of his master, he thought back to when he was the young boy like Ryo, and when Hiro had taken him under his wing, and made him, what he is today. As if like a half brother, he wondered what would become of Ryo. Betrayed by the lies of Himato, he would surely succombe to their ways. Once again an innocent child, has been put to their evil uses. Finally, as the sun rose for the morning, they made there way back into the the secretive hideout of the Quan Chi. Surrounded by small hills, with many caves and tall tree's, this place was the dream home of any ninja. It offered security from prying eyes, and had many avenues of escape as well as entry, hence it was chosen long ago for stragic purposes, to house one of the many outposts of the Quan Chi Clan.Naoshi led Raijen into the Main temple. The Temple was typical Japanese style, and was 3 stories high. It also had a level underground for various reasons.Naoshi walked to the entracne of the temple with Raijen. The two ninja guards on duty were not seen, but upon the special whistle from Naoshi, they took their mouths off their blow dart guns, and let her and Raijen pass. Naoshi went to the meeting chambers, and rang the bell. The grand master of the Quan Chi clan, Grand Master Takamatsu. He was the 33rd grand master of the Quan Chi Clan. Here Naoshi related the chain of events to Takamatsu, As did Raijen. By the time the three had finished, the sun was warm and inviting. At 8:30am they departed from Takamatsu, to there Huts, to rest up, and plan for the next phase of events, against Himato and his samuri.(Hi all. My first addition to these chapters. Ryo and Himoto split up. Ryo went left, and Himoto went the oppostie way. Ryo was very paranoid. He found the armory in the ruins. It had sais, nunchaku, bows, blowguns, and kitana's scattered. It seemed as if this place was recently occupied. He heard a crunch behind him and suddenly found himself ducking two rusty throwing knives. He looked about and found nothing. He checked his body frantically for any wound, for he feared getting tetnis. He turned just in time to see a ninja slashing at his neck. He ducked and jabbed the ninja with his thoing knife. He dived Head long for the kitana. He got it and saw the ninja charging him. He took out his shurikans and threw the four he had. The man stopped and fell. Two landed on his face, the other two in his throat. He took his new kitana and decapitated the man. He then walked out of the armory.

Chapter By Lord Astral

Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at 18:29:37

Troubled over the attack within the ruined armory, the silent warrior paused, two steps out of the ruined building. The night seemed pregnant with unrealized danger, and the knowledge that he had been expected gnawed at him. Somehow, he had been fully anticipated by his adversary. Somehow his moves were known. Either he was being so utterly predictable that anyone could set an assassin in his path, or someone who knew his identity, knew him, was after him. In his mind, he went back before the fighting, before the years of martial training, to the first years of his life. His master at the time, Yoshiri-san, was teaching he and his young peers, of the way of silence. “To live with silence around you, first you must allow silence within. The mind will fool you and clutter your thoughts. It will betray you. You cannot fully listen to the silence around you if your inner silence is disturbed. Practice now on inner silence.” A moment of concentration to clear his mind, and the ninja summoned the silence inside him. He listened, literally feeling his way through the cloud darkened night. A few night birds and bats made sound to the south, and what sounded like a small borrowing animal made scratching sounds in the dirt to the west. All around, the ever so slight sounds of leaves rustling in the gentle north breeze. To the west, a small sound. It seemed as if made by a small limb brushing by a trunk. But that was false, for the wind was too gentle and slow to cause a tree limb to brush in that manner. Focusing on his own movements, the warrior glided silently back into the ruined armory. Picking up a small recurved bow and quickly gathering a couple of dozen arrows, he slid a small vial from a hidden pocket and methodically brushed each of the arrowheads with an oily, greenish paste. The ninja replaced the vial to its resting place and placed a quiver on his back, with the arrows arranged for quick access. He knocked an arrow and noiselessly left the shattered repository of weapons. The first assailant became slightly visible, overconfident in the night’s ability to hide him. The warrior stayed within his silence. Then another ninja appeared, almost invisible in the night, and as proficient with silent movement as the waiting warrior himself. Still, silent, he waited further. He was rewarded by his patience. A third figure, almost a shadow of a shadow, seemed to detach itself from the forest and slide smoothly toward the destroyed compound. Raising his bow, and slowly pulling the arrow back to his cheek, he focused only on the arrow he held in his right hand. Focus. Arrow. He was the arrow. He smoothly released towards the shadow’s shadow in the back of the group of ninja. He saw the arrow seem to float, slowly, gently, winging its way to the most dangerous of the warriors. Almost without conscious thought on his part, his right hand reached behind him and plucked another of his poisoned arrows out and placed it on the bow, smoothly pulling the string and placing his hand against his cheek. Now, he aimed at the man in front. Focus. Release. The arrow seemed to leap from his hand, almost seeking out the heart of his enemy. Knowing that he would not be able to fire again, he dropped the bow and drew his katana. And just as the tip of his sword cleared its sheath, he heard the almost simultaneous impact of his deadly missiles. The shadow in the back grunted, barely breaking the silence of the night. Then the man in front seemed to make a choking sound, falling backward and crashing to the ground, disturbing fully the tranquil darkness. The warrior ignored the two wounded by arrows, as they would be dead within a few seconds. Turning to the second man, who had started to run as soon as the sound of a bowstring reached his ears, he waited in first defensive position for his enemy’s initial assault. A black clad man leapt, coming down with his blade aimed at the ninja’s head. A quick step to the side, and the loud crack of meeting steel shattered the peace of the dead village. After a few seconds of furious attacks and counter-attacks, loud clashes that seemed to ring in the ninja’s ears, he and his opponent paused, weighing each other’s ability. While keeping their swords ready, each reached out with their ki, their life energy. And each sensed a strong and honorable warrior. The ninja spoke first, “I am known as the shadow beyond moonlight. I am honored to face you.” The intruder replied. “I have known this name. I am called walker of silent waters. I am glad of a worthy opponent in you, Shadow.” Each bowed, and then resumed their stance. Shadow slowly shifted between first and third defense, while his enemy seemed to float side to side, shifting in defense. Almost on cue, the two warriors leapt together. Sword clashed against each other, and occasional sparks illuminated the life and death struggle. A single mistake would determine who lived and who died. Dancing around each other, each making feints and attacks against the other. Each man keenly read the body movements of the other, anticipating the attacks the other would make. Shadow seemed to be a bit slower in the swing, barely blocking some of the same attacks that his enemy was able to parry with relative ease. Gradually, Shadow slowed further, looking weaker and weaker. The sword strokes that he was able to parry crept closer to cutting, and his attacks came more slowly and weaker than at the beginning. He started favoring his right side, hunching over just a bit, protecting the area below his ribs. His opponent, at first ignored the disability as a deceipt, now began attacking this weakness. The edge of his blade came closer and closer to Shadow’s side, and each time Shadow looked harder pressed to defend this growing vulnerability. But then, once his opponent had been fully fooled by Shadows phantom weakness, Shadow unleashed his full speed. Waiting for the inevitable sword stroke to his right side, Shadow fell completely to the ground, ducking completely the attacking blade. His own blade shot forward with incredible speed, the edge slicing into his opponents inner thigh, completely severing the artery which provided blood to his right, and dominant, leg. Continuing to move after the stroke, Shadow rolled out from under his mortally wounded enemy and stood, watching the man who would have killed him start to collapse. A whisper seemed to escape almost of its own volition, from the wilting figure that he had just killed. “Good fortune to you Shadow beyond the Moonlight. I hope to learn from you in my next life.” The final collapse of the ninja known only to Shadow as Walker of Silent Waters caused him to bow once more to this honorable enemy. Then, filling is mind with inner silence once more, he went to find his comrades.

Suddenly he hears foot steps he turns as fast as ninjas turn and sees his little brother running toward him, he was being chased by bandits that robbed and burned the village down. His brother came to him just in time before bandits caught him. Ninja sad to his brother "GET BEHIND ME NOW!" the little boy jumped and hid behind his brother. Bandits sad oh look another one from the welcome committee "GET HIM" They were armed with long swords and they were attacking the ninja to kill him. Ninja moved out of the sharp blades way and reached in his carry on that he was carrying on his back, he pulled out his sword, it was a kittana sword with white ivory handle, he pulled the blade out and it seamed that with every hit he was slicing the bandits there were three of the bandits and they knew that they stumbled on a good warrior, but they still kept attacking him. One of the bandits charged on the ninja he took a step back and waited for him to get closed enough, when he got close enough before he even had a chance to strike the ninja moved out of this way and got behind him and caught bandits head and sliced his throat with his ninja blade and let go of the body, it fell on the ground with out moving at all. The other two bandits saw this and they slowly backed out and stared running away. "Cowards" mumbled the ninja and wiped the blood of his blade and set it back to its sheet and then in his carry on. Then he went over where his little brother was and picked him up with out saying anything, he knew the rest of the village was dead. He started walking to his master’s house where he was trained. The loss of Ryo made brought Raijen back to his childhood. He remembered his father showing him how to work the rice fields and his mother smiling as she hung sheets on the line to dry. His memory then was filled with hatred and sorrow as he watched the evil men kill his mother and father in cold blood. A passing warrior monk had saved Raijen’s life. Now, he sees himself in the temple, learning of God and the way of a warrior, his new friends helping him forget the tragedy. Then, Raijen sees the sorrow in the whole monastery as he leaves for his ninjitsu training. A cold voice breaks Raijen from his past….”I have Ryo now, and I shall soon have you! Raijen, you have failed to protect this boy just as you have failed to protect your family. You are a complete failure! Do you think you can hide from me? Walking around the corner towards Raijen was a man with a wooden peg leg and a staff cane. When his face was in the light, Raijen saw that it was the man responsible for Master Hiro death. It was General Zen. He was leading a new army of samurai. Stepping toward Raijen slowly, he struck him with the mid-section with the cane dropping Raijen to his knees. Zen spoke with intent" I still have the boy or shall I say Himato has him." Raijen looked up at Zen and said," If u harm Ryo in any way, I will finish what I started to do in the forest." Zen laughed at the thought of the out numbered ninja speaking of his death. General Zen replied," I told you we would meet again only u will be the one who's life will end." He then struck Raijen with a thunderous blow to the back of the head knocking him out cold. . .Raijen woke up three days later. . . . .?

"Who are you and who sent you to kill me!?", Yamake said to the girl. The girl stood there motionless, with a stranger's sword wrapped around her throat, she knew if she moved , she could be killed. "Well!?", Yamake was growing impacient. "AAAHHHH!!, Don't kill my sister!!", a little boy's voice shrieked so high, Yamake let go of the girl and fell to the ground holding his ears. The boy stopped screaming and his sister ran to him.Yamake got up,very angrily. "Who sent you!?" he yelled. "No one sent us! We are running away from this evil land!", the boy said, "I am Kin and this is my sister, Ling Ling." "Oh great, companions", Yamake said sarcastically,"Oh well, I guess you could come along, I may need the help of a USELESS CHILD AND HIS WEAK SISTER!!" "I am not WEAK!!",said Ling Ling, very angrily. In an angry motion , Ling Ling, jumped up and threw a stick at Yamake, hitting him in his face.Yamake fell back, nose bleeding profusely. It said "You two have much to learn before entering the realm of Nita". "Your skills are advanced farther then any other I have seen since the rise of Hiro".
