About Tai Chi

About Daniel Lee

Born in Shanghai, China, Daniel Lee is one of the most respected instructors of Tai Chi Chuan today. Lee learned Shaolin kung fu, chi hung, and Western boxing, winning the welterweight division of a national boxing championship in 1948. Tai chi chuan first came to Lees attention in Taiwan, buy he was unable to find a teacher after returning to the states. He practiced judo but an injury influenced his decision to switch to kenpo karate. Currently Daniel Lee holds a a black belt which he recieved under martial artist, Ed Parker. Lee also met and trained with the Legendary Bruce Lee at Lees school in Chinatown during 1967. In 1966 Lee met a tai chi chuan master who had just arrived from China; he immediately quit kenpo and took up the art. In 1967 he heard that Bruce Lee had opened a school in Chinatown, and the two Lees met and trained together until Bruce went to Hong Kong to make films. In 1988 Daniel Lee was named Black Belt magazine's Man of the Year.
