Feng Shui Tips - Kitchen

The kitchen is an extremely important room since it is directly connected to the health and prosperity of the household.

1) The most important first step to realizing the benefits of Feng Shui is to perform a Space Clearing procedure. Every environment has accumulated negative energy, or "sha chi" that needs to be eliminated. This procedure will make all other cures more effective.

2) The most important basic rule is to keep the kitchen neat and very clean at all times. Do not let dirty dishes pile up in the sink. Keep counters clean and clear. Clean out cupboards and the refrigerator on a regular basis.

3) Natural light is vital in the kitchen. If yours tends to be dark and lacking in sunlight, a good solution would be to use balanced spectrum light bulbs. These will also allow you to keep a few plants in the kitchen, which will really improve healthy 'chi'. Hanging a crystal in a dark corner is another good way to keep 'chi' moving.

4) Avoid placing onions and garlic where they are visible, as these items are considered to be in a state of subtle decay. Instead, display fresh fruit, that will be eaten in a few days, in a beautiful bowl, as a symbol of health and abundance.

5) Placing a Wu Lu gourd in a visible location in the the kitchen is a powerful symbol for health, nourishment and longevity.

6) Avoid placing your refrigerator in the wood area (east or south east). The refrigerator is made
of metal, which in Feng Shui is said to destroy the wood element.

7) Use bright, warm accent colors in the kitchen. Yellow and orange, images of flowers and fruit, and light airy fabrics all help to radiate an air of abundant, good living.

8) Keep your sink (water element) as far away from your stove (fire element) as possible. If you
make any major change to your kitchen, this would be the most important one. If this change  is impossible, place a plant or something made of wood between them for balancing the earth element.

9) Never leave your knives out on display. These create 'sha chi', or poison arrows and negative energy.
