A composition of pure poetic romance... so inviting... so joyful... it's time to be frivolous... time for indulgence. * In Japan, spring begins with the Peach Blossom Festival, a celebration for girls annually observed on March 3. In early April, when cherry blossoms reach their climax, entrance ceremonies for schools are held throughout the country. Enveloped by floral fragrance, everyone feels happy in spring. The pink color of spring blossoms represents the happy mood of this season better than any other color does. * In particular, cherry blossoms are essential for Japan's spring; without them, Japanese cannot feel that spring has really come. Pale cherry blossom pink imparts a gentle and pure image; Japanese love to see cherry flowers bloom, and to see their petals falling, the latter evoking pathos for evanescence of life, as well as admiration for a noble ending. * Peach blossom pink, on the other hand, imparts an image of a seductive woman. Although I cannot explain why, this tone indeed stimulates our innermost drives. For instance, there is a popular song titled "Momoiro-toiki" (Breath of peach blossom color). As soon as we hear this title, we can easily suppose the entire text of that song, probably because the sweet and mellow tone of peach blossoms stimulates our body and mind, stirring our blood. Different Images of Pink by Men and Women * According to a recent statistical survey of chromatics, pink was selected by the majority of Japanese men who were asked to select one color that induces embarrassment or bashfulness. This is because they associated pink with sex. On the other hand, most Japanese women associated pink with happiness. It is still unknown why this color evokes such different images between men and women. Can this be attributed to differences in physical structures, or brain functions? * Today, with the advent of the so-called "aged society," we see builders constructing many facilities for the elderly. Architects of such facilities carefully select colors to use; as a result, newly constructed facilities are much more colorful than older facilities. Although diverse colors are used, pink is most frequently in use; by using the color of adolescence, and of lovers, do architects attempt to rejuvenate the elderly? * Excessive use of pink, however, makes people too relaxed and less alert. Being tense is sometimes necessary, since life is not all sweet.
